Mental Health Concerns
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and can be beneficial in some situations. It can alert us to dangers and help us prepare and pay attention.
Anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of nervousness and anxiousness and involve excessive fear or anxiety.
Depression is a common and serious mental illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can also lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and decrease a person's ability to function at work and at home.
Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder. Symptoms can include delusions, hallucinations, trouble with thinking and concentration, and lack of motivation.
ADHD is one of the most common mental health disorders affecting children. ADHD also affects many adults. Symptoms may include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental condition that involves persistent challenges in social interaction, speech and nonverbal communication, and restricted/repetitive behaviours.
The effects of ASD and the severity of symptoms are different in each person.
These disorders can cause people to behave angrily or aggressively toward people or property. They may have difficulty controlling their emotions and behavior and may break rules or laws.
Disruptive, Impulse Control
OCD is an anxiety disorder in which people have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) that make them feel driven to do something repetitively (Compulsions). The repetitive behaviors can significantly interfere with a person's daily activities and social interactions.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative condition. It is one of the most common forms of dementia, a group of symptoms that lead to a decline in mental function severe enough to disrupt daily life. Alzheimer's causes problems with a person's memory and ability to learn, reason, make judgments, communicate and carry out daily activities.
Personality is the way of thinking, feeling and behaving that makes a person different from other people. An individual's personality is influenced by experiences, environment and inherited characteristics. A Personality disorder is a way of thinking, feeling and behaving that deviates from the expectations of the culture, causes distress or problems functioning, and lasts over time.
